Hiking
So why did your son want to join Scouting? He wanted to do out-of-door stuff, hike, camp, and explore the out-of-doors. One of the easiest and most fun ways to get your Scouts out is to start hiking.

Camping
Camping programs combine fun and excitement with doing one's best, getting along with others, and developing an appreciation for ecology and the world of the outdoors. Age-appropriate camping programs are Packed with theme-oriented action that brings Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, and Webelos Scouts into the great out-of-doors. Cub Scout Pack families enjoy camping in local council camps and other council-approved campsites.

Pinewood Derby
The pinewood derby is a racing event for Cub Scouts in the Boy Scouts of America. With the help of parents, scouts build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pine, plastic wheels and metal axles. The pinewood derby was selected as part of "America's 100 Best" in 2006 as "a celebrated rite of spring" by Reader's Digest.
